Sydney-based Australian artist Angus1 and Japanese artist Marina Kodama will release a feel-good, downtempo collaboration ‘Ganbaru’.
The message of ‘Ganbaru’, which moves back and forth between English and Japanese, is universal: look forward with positive energy, especially during periods of personal or collective instability.
Produced by Lucianblomkamp (also known for his work with US rapper 6LACK and Australian pop artist Mallrat) with additional production by Angus1, the song’s arrangement is soulful, reflective and sure to appeal to audiences with different tastes.
The song was mastered by Matt Colton, who has worked on records for high-profile artists Arctic Monkeys, Thom Yorke and Aphex Twin, as well as contemporary artists Flying Lotus, James Blake, FKA Twigs and Little Simz.
*Ganbaru (がんばる, 頑張る) is a ubiquitous Japanese word which roughly means to slog on tenaciously through tough times. While often translated to mean “doing one’s best”, it can also mean persistence, tenacity, doggedness and hard work.
